A Photo Essay On Chernobyl

Powerful photo essay on Chernobyl, 20 years after the accident. Photographer Paul Fusco says the damage was so great that he thought he was looking at "a different race of people".

Cherynobil released more radioctive contamination than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs combined, producing more than 200 times the Caaesium contamination of the two nuclear bombs

Around 70 percent of the fallout settled in Belarus where more than 3500 settlements, including 27 towns, and more than 2 million people were exposed to contamination. Since the accident more than 134000 Belarusian's have been resettled or have moved to "clear" areas of the country.
