Trivium — call 'em retro; call 'em heavy metallica
If you loved '80s-era Metallica, you'll love these guys.
Led by a talented 21-year-old songwriter, evolving thrash rockers Trivium is promoting an acclaimed new 13-song album, "The Crusade."
Some hail it as metal's salvation.
The Sun (London) calls the disc "a near flawless collection of songs."
The Village Voice called them "ferociously talented players," but damned them for the Metallica obsession: "Trivium wanna be Metallica so bad you're almost embarrassed for them, like you've walked in on frontman Matt Heafy air-guitaring to 'Ride the Lightning' in his bedroom. At the same time, you have to wonder why they've set the bar so low for themselves."
Heafy doesn't buy it, but maintains a "what, me worry?" attitude about it.
